Welcome to my kitchen. I am really excited to have this opportunity to share my passion for cooking and creating recipes with you. Most of my recipes will be gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free and vegan. If not, there will be suggested substitutions. I want to help others discover that cooking for allergies or sensitivities is not only possible, but a pleasure.

I am a wife and the mother of three very busy children. Two in HS and one in MS. During the week I am also a substutite teacher. Most of my time spent in the kitchen happens on the weekend. We like to cook once and eat twice. We spend time cooking and baking over the weekend and then freeze and thaw during the week. We live in a very rural area, called The Palouse region of Washington State. We are an hour from most natural foods and have to plan our lives carefully. We buy from our regional grocer, the nearest food coop and order items online. I will share tips for what works best for us.

Food allergies and sensitivities are a big part of our lives. I have a dairy protein allergy and my middle school son has many food sensitivities. He has struggled his whole life due to a fungal infection as an infant. I was treated with antibiotics while nursing, I was told that the prescription was safe for nursing moms and then he became very ill. This lead to our life of trying to get him back on track with his health. We first thought the only offending foods were dairy and eggs. I became very good at changing most recipes to work for this diet. Then at age 10 a simple blood test revealed many more. He has been on a very limited diet for just over four years. His diet is free from: dairy, egg, gluten, canola, peanut, cashew, pistachio, almond, coconut, citrus, tomato and yeast (baker’s and brewer’s). Prior to this testing he had fallen off the growth chart and had extreme behaviors. After removing all of the offending foods he became a totally different child within one week. He gained 15 lbs in three months and started on his road to health. Note: He hated me the first week. Then a week later he said,”I don’t care if I ever eat wheat again.” We had never seen him so calm and at peace. His physical GI symptoms improved quickly. No more eczema. Now we deal with the food boredom factor and the feeling of always being different from his peers. We are constantly trying to create new ideas for his food choices and thus this blog is a result.

It is my hope and prayer that I can be encouragement to others. It is sometimes overwhelming trying to create something that your child will eat, let alone enjoy. Walk with me and we will feed our families and friends well.
